I predominantly paint with oils with a rich colour palette. I often mix oil and water mediums using impasto together with my own techniques. My paintings explore the mysterious and fertile area between abstraction and representation.

My work is an emotional and deeply felt response to the sea and landscape I love. I sometimes include references to memory and my own photographs.

One of my proudest moments was my parents visiting the National Portrait Gallery to view the painting of my grandparents called ‘Mr & Mrs Roberts’. I was especially pleased to learn that this entry for the NPG Open was strongly championed by Frank Auerbach, one of the selectors.

I am a regular artist in residence on the Isles of Scilly, which is something I look forward to immensely and am inspired by each year.

My current work is inspired by my daily sea swim routine, Northern Soul dancing and ancient sites of Wessex.
